11 Muertos is an alternative rock band rooted in Spanish-speaking Bakersfield. Originally the creation of high school friends Elio Romero and Jose Manuel Ramirez, the band had been dormant for many years until they were jolted awake by a chance encounter with a new contributor in 2017. Late one night, Romero and Ramirez were reverentially ruminating the music of Cerati and Caifanes at Bakersfield’s famous Sandrini’s basement bar when they were overheard by Edgar Aguilasocho (aka “Eddy Eagles”), who would interject himself into their conversation about iconic roqueros Latinoamericanos. This conversation led to many more, interspliced with jam sessions with this new trio. Soon after, Romero and Ramirez would invite Aguilasocho to join the group as drummer and producer.
The band’s newest incarnation debuted with a headlining performance supporting the 15th Annual Dolores Huerta Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic in October 2019.
On August 24, 2021, 11 Muertos released their self-titled debut demo on the Virtuist label. This release features three tracks highlighting the band’s varied interpretations on rock Latinoamericano, from the colorful, driving rhythms of Infrarojo, to the romantic nostalgia of Habitación, to the moody introspection of Reptil. 11 Muertos’ music is available at virtuist.tv.
In releases and performances to come, 11 Muertos asks its listeners to join them in their celebration of the varied colors and voices of Latin-American rock.
